SAITEC —Mooring Load SHM

Inalia contributed to the development of mooring loads SHM system based on simplified hydrodynamic models an AI-based algorithms for the mooring lines of SAITEC’s DemoSATH floating wind platform. Moorings SHM combines direct load measurement with machine learning and hydrodynamic simulations (Orcaflex) to enable continuous mooring integrity assessment throughout asset life.

NEED

To monitor real mooring loads on SATH operational floating wind platform — overcoming the durability and replaceability limitations of existing direct measurement technologies, which cannot support long-term lifecycle SHM.

CHALLENGES

  • Design and installation of a direct and indirect load measurement system on an already-deployed platform — with no existing commercial solution.
  • Durability of instrumentation in extreme offshore marine conditions.
  • System installation and integration
  • Advanced data analysis: find the relations between meteoceanic conditions and plantfrom structural and hydrodynamic response.
  • Symplied Orcaflex model development and correlation.
  • Development of AI algorithms capable of predicting mooring loads from indirect with sufficient accuracy for fatigue assessment.

SOLUTION

  • FEM-guided monitoring strategy and custom fibre optic-based load measurement system, installable on an already-installed floating platform.
  • Sensors installation.
  • Load prediction system based on AI and Orcaflex models.
  • Advanced analysis and correlation between models and field data.
